For years, many of us have turned a blind eye to the pollution in the oceans and waterways of Canada, and the rest of the world. Our oceans have long been dumping grounds for all sorts of chemicals, now we are finding more plastic in our seas than ever before. This not only has an effect on the marine life that dwell in these waters, but also on the seafood that we consume.
The World Economic Forum predict that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the sea (by weight) than fish. Recently (and more locally) in the Saskatchewan River, a fish was found with a plastic sports bottle ring around its mid-section, leading to its body actually growing around this. The threat on the oceans and waterways is clearer than ever, as a society we must take action against it.
